According to a report by Global Times, Australia has banned DeepSeek, a tech company from China, from providing services on government systems and devices, citing national security concerns.

DeepSeek, in the context of its risk level to the operations of the Australian government, was labeled as “unacceptable” by the Australian government; this consequently led to the prohibition of the use of this Chinese AI chatbot on any Federal computer and mobile device. Minister for Home Affairs Tony Burke emphasized that the ban was imposed for security threats and not because of the app’s country of origin, a Global Times news report said.
According to Radio Free Asia, China has condemned Australia’s prohibition as a politicization of economic, trade, and technological issues, with Beijing insisting that the ban is a political act and not a genuine security concern.
Global Times reported that Liu Wei from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, an AI specialist in China, says Australia drew the same conclusions as the United States, where several federal agencies including NASA and the Pentagon have taken action against DeepSeek and some Chinese technologies.
