Punjab Eases Transfer Rules for Married Teachers
Female teachers in Punjab can now transfer to their spouse’s district anytime under the updated hardship policy.

Punjab’s School Education Department has amended its transfer policy, allowing married female teachers to shift to their spouse’s district immediately after marriage.

On May 9, 2025, Punjab introduced changes to the e-Transfer Policy 2024 to support married female teachers. They can now apply for transfers to their spouse’s residence district once during service, under the newly added “hardship” category.

Transfers under this policy are no longer limited to scheduled rounds and can be processed year-round. For inter-division or inter-district moves, education offices must issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) with coordination between both districts.

The updated policy also sets priority rankings for hardship cases, including divorced, widowed, or separated women, those with medical conditions, differently abled individuals, single parents, and newly married women. When multiple requests are made under one category, preference goes to teachers posted farthest from home.
