Punjab to put 600 e buses empty in major urban areas

By the end of the year, Punjab is set to introduce 600 electric buses to the 24 southern districts and some of the notorious hubs, including Lahore, Multan, and Faisalabad. The announcement was made by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz in a recent convened transport review meeting.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz added that 240 electric buses would be distributed to 24 districts of South Punjab with effect from July, at this high-level meeting. Another 500 buses would be launched during August-October, and their grand target is Lahore, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, Multan, and Rawalpindi.

Urban Transport and Clean Air Taking into consideration the results of the UNDP survey which was conducted six years ago, the clean air and urban transport objectives include:
The electric buses of the Punjab Clean Air Programme are 400 buses with a total 600 electric buses, which will service in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Kasur. The programme seeks to reduce air pollution and improvement of public transport in cities.

Key Transit Projects considered
Another update discussed was the Gujranwala Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), which would travel 22 km or 28 stations between Rahwali and Aimanabad with 80 feeder buses. An avenue extension to Gakhar Mandi is being contemplated. The Red and Orange Line projects of Faisalabad were also encountered where the anticipated daily riderships of the former and the latter are 185,000 and 111,000, respectively.

CM Maryam Nawaz during the review meeting said the move is not only a revolutionizing thing, it is an area to help our people breathe better air.

Future of Punjab Transit
An electric bus introduction is the aspect of an environmental and infrastructure reformation program of Punjab. In case of success, it will lead to an example to be followed by other provinces, increasing the population of public transportation, and addressing the issue of air quality in the urban areas.
