“Slim upgrades for a premium price — we expected more,” said a tech analyst reviewing the launch.

Sony has launched the Xperia 1 VII globally with a few upgrades but kept most features the same as its predecessor, raising concerns over its $1600 price.

Sony unveiled its latest flagship, the Xperia 1 VII, featuring the same 6.5-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and 12GB RAM. The only major camera change is a larger ultrawide sensor. The phone supports Wi-Fi 7 and runs Android 15 with four promised updates.

Design remains mostly unchanged, and the $1600 price is seen as steep compared to rival phones offering better displays or faster charging. The telephoto lens still uses a small sensor, affecting zoom performance.

Battery size stays at 5,000mAh with 30W wired and 15W wireless charging. Sony claims 80% battery health after four years thanks to adaptive charging. The phone will ship in Moss Green, Orchid Purple, and Slate Black. A 512GB model will be limited to select regions.
